A Bust of Mikhail Sholokhov is Opened in Great Britain

16.06.2016

Within the Russian and British Cross-Year of Language and Literature, a bust of Mikhail Sholokhov is put up in the Celebration Hall of Warrington (Cheshire, Great Britain).

A wood carved bust of the Nobel Prize winner was donated to the City Council by a Russian sculptor Leonty Usov. His works made of wood were exhibited in many European capitals and can be found in private collections in America, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Finland and Russia.

The works of Sholokhov have become very popular in Great Britain and the bust of the great Russian writer will take its rightful place in the art collection of the municipality. The representatives of the city officials spoke with pride about spiritual affinity of Sholokhov’s works for the people of Warrington and said that one of the city streets is called Cossack Ave.

The opening ceremony was joined by the representatives of the Russian Embassy, British veterans who served in the Northern convoys in the years of the World War II, members of the Russian-speaking community and school teachers.
