NewsOpening Ceremony of the Exhibition “The Sovereign’s Guards”26.05.2016On May 28, one of the days of “Sholokhov Spring” in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, the Excursion and Exhibition Centre “People’s House” opens the exhibition “The Sovereign’s Guards” from the collections of the State Museum-Reserve of War History and Nature “Kulikovo Pole”. It tells about the peculiarities of performing the guards’ duty at the early stage of the Cossacks in Russia. The exhibition displays the materials about the foundation in the XVI–XVII centuries a fortress of Yepifan, one of the first Cossack borders of the Tula Region and played an important role in defending the Russian borders from attacks of Crimean and Nogai Tatars. Late in the XVI century the Government settled Cossacks around Yepifan. They formed eight settlements. The exhibits displayed will tell about the fortress in those years, about Cossack military campaigns, about their spiritual and everyday life. The viewers will see the results of archaeological studies carried out in the surroundings of the town in 1983–1998 by the Upper Don archaeological expedition of the State Historical Museum and the Tula archaeological expedition of the State Museum-Reserve “Kulikovo Pole”. Among the unique exhibits there are fragments if military equipment, horse harness, labour instruments and household utensils. It will be especially interesting for the visitors to compare the peculiarities of Cossacks’ performing military service and their everyday life in the region of Tula and the Don Army Region, to see a common aspiration of Cossacks to serve the Country, defend its borders and to be permanently ready to defeat the enemy’s attacks. You are welcome to the exhibition which will run from May 28, till September 4, 2016. Olga Bakhtiyarova |
