Tatar Original Decor Ornament

This was the theme of the museum classes for schoolchildren at the exhibition “Arts and Crafts of Kazan Tatars: History and Modernity”, which runs in the Excursion and Exhibition Centre “People’s House”.
The 5–8-form students of Vyoshenskaya secondary school learned the materials of the exhibition shown by the National Museum of the Tatarstan Republic. Examining the jeweler’s art and leather mosaic items the children learned about the peculiarities of their manufacturing technique and discussed the ornaments typical for Kazan Tatars. In the gold-embroidery used in women’s and men’s headwear, towels, curtains, articles of clothes the children noted floral motifs and geometrical forms. The schoolchildren were surprised at the calligraphy embodied in such a genre of the folk art as “shamails”, which can be seen in Tatar houses now as well.
The children trained in creating Tatar ornaments by means of sand art. They created ornaments of floral bouquets, combined simple figures with complicated openwork geometrical forms. Then the children used the created ornaments for decorating skullcaps, which they made of velvet paper.
