Creative Meeting within the Frames of the Year of Russian Cinema

On the main stage of the festival “Intermuseum-2016” in Manezh of the capital there was held a creative meeting with Sergei Ursulyak, the director of the film “The Quiet Don”, and Alexander Sholokhov, Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov.

The talk was about filming classics, about the work with historical and ethnographical material, and about the cooperation experience of cinematographers and museum workers.

The members of the meeting were shown a documentary « “The Quiet Don”. Filming against the Background of the Epoch» made by the film director Yelena Yakovich in the places depicted by Mikhail Sholokhov in his great novel and where Sergei Ursulyak made the serial film. “When you come here, you feel as if you open the book”, – the author of the documentary considers.

Sergei Ursulyak spoke about the peculiarities of the work over the filming of the epopee novel, about the importance of turning again to the penetrative Sholokhov’s lines, about the role of the River Don and the steppe expanses in creating the film, about participation of the residents and cooperation with the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov.

Alexander Sholokhov, Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, shared his impressions of the film. During the shooting process the Museum provided assistance to the makers of the new filming without interfering in the creative issues. Undoubtedly, the film has become the main premiere of the year and aroused the viewers’ desire to read the novel again. It developed an increased interest to the work of the great writer, to the exhibitions of the Museum-Reserve and to Sholokhov country. Such cooperation of cinematographers and museum workers gives new opportunities to both of them.

It should be noted that the serial film “The Quiet Don” (the film director S.Ursulyak) is the fourth screening of the novel, and in all, there are 19 films made on the works by M.A.Sholokhov.
