“Forest Tier” in Novocherkassk

On April 9, the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov jointly with the Novocherkassk A.K.Kortunov Engineering and Reclamation Institute of the Don Agricultural University and the Small Forest Academy held the I Round of the Relay Quiz “Forest Tier” for schoolchildren of the Rostov Region south in Novocherkassk. It was joined by 10 teams from Novocherkassk, Taganrog and Stanitsa Grushevskaya the Aksai District.

The members of the Relay were greeted by O.S.Chernykh, a chief specialist of the Forest Use Department of the Forestry Development Administration of the Rostov Region Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; N.V.Ivantsova, Director of the Small Forest Academy, a docent of the Don Agricultural University, S.N.Kruzhilin, the dean of the Forestry Faculty of the Novocherkassk Engineering and Reclamation Institute; S.A.Sivtsov, Head of the Department for Memorial Landscape Conservation and Environmental Monitoring of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov.

The Relay Quiz included 6 grounds for the children to implement different tasks: they described the main components of plantings, determined the main parameters of the wood stand (structure, age, height) and species diversity of forest birds.

Taking part in the “Forest Tier” the schoolchildren acquired the primary skills and habits of forester, enriched their knowledge about the forest, which foster the environmental awareness and careful attitude to the native land environment.

The winners were awarded diplomas, presents and registered certificates to benefit for their entering this educational institution.

The winners will take part in the II Round of “Forest Tier”, which will take place in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, in the autumn of 2016.
