Contest of School Compositions on the Works by M.A.Sholokhov

We invite school students to take part in the contest of compositions on the works by M.A.Sholokhov. It will be held from April 20, up to May 20, 2016, by the Department of Russian Literature of the Institute of Humanitarian Sciences of the Moscow City Pedagogical University jointly with the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and the national scientific and educational journal “Mir Sholokhova” (The World of Sholokhov).

The contest is aimed at attracting secondary school pupils to creative assimilation of artistic richness of Russian literary classics and to the works by M.A.Sholokhov, one of its outstanding representatives.

 

The Topics of the Compositions:

 

1. “… I want to show our people and the sources of their heroism” (M.A.Sholokhov) (Patriotic theme in the writer’s works).

2. “And at that moment I knew immutably, that I am ready spiritually for any trial and humiliation, only to save the life of my dears and of mine.” (Family as depicted by M.A.Sholokhov).

3. 3. What descriptions show the mastery of M.A.Sholokhov, an artist of word, with the greatest force?

4. 4. Why are the works by M.A.Sholokhov particularly relevant in our time?

5. 5. My Sholokhov.

 

Requirements for the Works:

 

- conformity with one of the suggested topics;

- textual reference to the works by M.A.Sholokhov both included into the school programs and outside them;

- clarity of the structure, consistency and validity of the conclusions;

- disclosure of style and content resources, and educational potential of Sholokhov’s works of fiction in particular provisions of the composition;

- approximate amount: 3–4 exercise-book pages (1.5–2 pages of A4 format sheets).

 

The texts of the compositions (scanned or photographed exercise-book pages, or those computer typed in Word processor) are to be sent by e-mail: mirSholokhova@yandex.ru with obligatory indication of the surname, name and patronymic of the author; the surname, name and patronymic of the teacher, who assisted (if he did) in writing the work; the name of the school and form; the contact e-mail and telephone number.

The jury includes: Y.A.Dvoryashin (chairman), Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor, Honoured Worker of Science of the Russian Federation,

editor-in-chief of the journal “Mir Sholokhova” (The World of Sholokhov); A.I.Smirnova (co-chairman), Science Deputy Director of the Institute of Humanitarian Sciences of the Moscow Pedagogical University; I.N.Raikova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, a docent; S.A.Vasilyev, Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor; and I.I.Matveyeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences, a docent.

The best works will be marked with diplomas, and the texts of the contest winners will be published in the journal “Mir Sholokhova” (The World of Sholokhov).

The works will not be reviewed.
