Exhibition “Y.A.Gagarin Visiting M.A.Sholokhov”

On April 8, the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov will present an exhibition dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the first space flight of man. M.A.Sholokhov responded to the event with his telegram published in the newspaper “Pravda”: “Shoot! There is nothing to say more, getting speechless of admiration and pride for the fantastic success of the native Russian science.”

And on June 13, 1967, Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya welcomed the first cosmonaut of the Planet, Yury Alexeyevich Gagarin, who came in the delegation of young writers to meet with Sholokhov.

The photo exhibition “Y.A.Gagarin Visiting M.A.Sholokhov”, which will run in the excursion and exhibition centre “People’s House” from April 8, to May 10, 2016, will tell about the events of those days, about the impressions of the meeting of the great writer and the first cosmonaut.

The guests were welcomed at the airport in Stanitsa Bazkovskaya. Then, Yury Alexeyevich took part in the meeting at the central square and talked with the residents of Vyoshenskaya. Mikhail Alexandrovich had a talk with the young writers, representatives of different parts of the USSR, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Columbia and the GDR. This kind of creative workshop lasted over three hours. Following that, Sholokhov showed the guests the most beautiful sight of the Don – the place, where the Khopyor flows into it. The people now call this place “Gagarin’s Glade”.

Gagarin visited the house of M.A.Sholokhov. Later he remembered: “…The meetings with Mikhail Alexandrovich impressed me indelibly. Sholokhov is full of cordiality and friendliness. You feel his attractiveness from his first phrase. It seems as if you have known him for long years and he has known your life. To listen to him is a great joy. The lessons of Sholokhov, they can’t be called otherwise, were lessons of humaneness, respect of each nation to other nations, lessons of international fraternity. The depth of Sholokhov’s penetration into human souls is boundless…”
