News“When You Can’t but Write…”19.02.2016On February 18, “Sholokhov Centre” of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov in Rostov-on-Don started the run of the exhibition “When You Can’t but Write…” telling about the life and work of Leo Tolstoy, the great Russian writer. This is a joint project of the State Memorial and Natural Reserve “Museum Estate of L.N.Tolstoy “Yasnaya Polyana”, the State Museum of L.N.Tolstoy and the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve with participation of the Don State Public Library. It is symbolic hat the exhibition about Tolstoy is opening in “Sholokhov Centre”. M.A.Sholokhov highly appreciated the work of the great Russian writer, considered him to be his teacher and said that in his green years when reading Tolstoy he “felt with his skin his mastery, the universe of his narration, let alone his ultimate truthfulness”. Alexander Mikhailovich Sholokhov, Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, stressed that all the members of the project are closely connected by friendship and fruitful cooperation. Serghei Alexandrovich Arkhangelov, Director of the State Museum of L.N.Tolstoy in Moscow, told about the Moscow life of the writer – morning exercises and labour, walking and horseback rides to rest from emotional experience, writing work and permanent communication with people. M.A.Arshakyan, Head of the Travelling Exhibition Department of the Museum Estate of L.N.Tolstoy “Yasnaya Polyana” greeted the guests and read out a letter of Yekaterina Alexandrovna Tolstaya, Director of the Museum. There were displayed unique exhibits from the State Museum of L.N.Tolstoy. A writing table of Tolstoy from his house in Khamovniki was in the centre of the hall as if reflecting in paintings: “A Portrait of Writer Tolstoy” by painter N.N.Ge on one side and a photography by P.V.Preobrazhensky “L.N.Tolstoy Working in the Study of His Moscow House” of 1898, on the other. The exhibition is arranged as a set of “studies”, where Leo Tolstoy worked in different years creating his great masterpieces: a war study, the studies of the house in Yasnaya Polyana, a study in Khamovniki house and a green study. The exhibition opened with a living voice of Tolstoy greeting and thanking the guests. The visitors will learn much about the great Russian writer, his work, will see his writing utensils, clothes, books and a favourite bench of the writer.
The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov invites to visit the exhibition “When You Can’t but Write…”, which will run until April 15, 2016, in “Sholokhov Centre”: 125/69 Bolshaya Sadovaya, Rostov-on-Don.
