Russian People Call Sholokhov the Prominent Native Writer

Before the World Day of Writer, Levada Center conducted a pall among Russians, what most prominent native writers they can call. Among the most frequent names was Mikhail Sholokhov.

The survey results show that the Russians consider the most prominent native writers to be Leo Tolstoy (45% respondents), Fyodor Dostoyevsky (23%), Anton Chekhov (18%), Alexander Pushkin (15%), Mikhail Sholokhov (13%), Nikolay Gogol (13%), Mikhail Bulgakov (11%), Ivan Turghenev (9%), Maxim Gorky (7%) and Mikhail Lermontov (6%).

The survey was conducted on February 19–24, 2016, on a representative nationwide sample of urban and rural population of 1600 people aged 18 and older in 137 settlements of 48 regions of the country. The statistical error of the data from these studies does not exceed 3.4%.
