Winter Holidays in Sholokhov Museum

21.01.2016

During the New Year holidays and school holidays, the Museum-Reserve was visited by over 3000 people from the Rostov, Volgograd, Voronezh, Moscow, Kursk and Leningrad regions, the Krasnodar and Stavropol areas, and by the residents of Vyoshenskaya and nearest villages.

Before the New Year holidays, “Sholokhov Centre” of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov in Rostov-on-Don started the project “Christmas Stories”, which enabled the visitors to see the exhibitions “Orenburg Downy Shawl” and “Everywhere Ask for…” (The History of the Russian State on the Candy Wrapper) and to take part in the fascinating master-classes, games and competitions.

On the eve of the New Year, the People’s House of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov was steeped into a magic winter tale with mysterious adventures and transformations. The children and their parents enjoyed the theatrical performance “Father Frost and a Magic Mirror”.

The Children Museum Centre gave interactive classes, where the children learned about the New Year Traditions in Rus, took part in the lottery and made a Christmas tree toy of clay.

The tours in the Memorial House in the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov were supplemented with a new theme “A New Year Party in the Sholokhovs’ House” based on the memories of the writer’s children about New Year celebration in their family. The visitors were offered to guess New Year riddles, which were made up by Mikhail Alexandrovich in the 1930-s.

The residents and guests of Vyoshenskaya got an opportunity to visit the Stables of the Museum-Reserve, learn about the Don horse breeding traditions and the Cossack life, and had a fun of horse riding about the streets of the stanitsa.

Besides the main exhibitions in Vyoshenskaya, Karghinskaya, Kruzhilin Village, the tourists were offered natural tours to the Old Giant Oak, to Lebyazhiy Yar and to the sites of shooting the film “The Quiet Don” (the film director S.Ursulyak).

The residents and guests of the stanitsa were brightly impressed by the various entertainment and educational activities held by the Museum-Reserve.
