Writers Met in the Home Country of Sholokhov

25.05.2019

On May 25, 2019, meetings of local and professional writers took place at the literary folklore holiday “Sholokhov Spring”. They were held at the central library of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya and in the People’s House of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

The library welcomed creative people from Vyoshenskaya, Kazanskaya, Oblivskaya, Kumylzhenskaya, Surovikino joined in a group of “Verkhny Don” (Upper Don) and the authors who appreciate Sholokhov traditions. The library reading hall displayed the books by the Nobel Prize winner and the works of Sholokhov scholars. Among them there was the 10th issue of the regional almanac “Verkhny Don” published for the birthday of the writer.

The meeting began with a “lyrical minute”: the young musician Timofei Shpynyov of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya performed to the guitar a few songs dedicated to the work of Sholokhov.

Then, the host of the meeting Grigory Fyodorovich Rychnev, Head of the literary union, Member of the Union of Russian Writers, gave a floor to Ivan Petrovich Garanin, Labour Veteran, an old resident of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, who many years was personally acquainted with M.A.Sholokhov. I.P.Garanin told how the writer communicated with people, how ordinary Cossacks-villagers loved him for his novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”, for all he did for his home country.

Nikolay Vasilyevich Ushakov, our countryman, who served in the security agencies in Moscow and at the end of the last century took part in ensuring a safety of the found manuscripts of the first two books “And Quiet Flows the Don”. He shared his memories and expressed his admiration for creative achievements of M.A.Sholokhov.

His namesake, Viktor Ivanovich Ushakov from Oblivskaya, recited his poetry devoted to his native Sholokhov country.

The audience was greeted by Oleg Adyl-Gireyevich Etlukhov, Secretary of the Union of Russian Writers, a public figure of Karachay-Cherkessia. He came to Vyoshenskaya, to the homeland of the author of “And Quiet Flows the Don” to worship his grave, to breathe the incomparable air of these places, to touch with the soul to the Sholokhov heritage. He spoke about Sholokhov, about the influence of his literary works and achievements on the multinational literature of Russia, about the beginning of revitalization of the Union of Writers after it was headed by

N.F.Ivanov. At the end of his speech he made a proposal about changing the procedure for awarding and handing in the Sholokhov Prize.

At the meeting the poets recited their poetry – N.Karagichev and N.Yemanov (Surovikino), V.Merkulova (Vyoshenskaya), E.Yadrina (Stavropol); A.Chudina (Surovikino) read a fragment of her short story. Among the speakers there was V.Govorovsky (Vyoshenskaya), the author of the recently published book “Yelansky Bridgehead”.

The creative meeting continued in the People’s House of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, where the writers were joined by another secretary of the Union of Russian Writers, Anatoly Sergeyevich Truba, chief editor of the journal “Aleksandr” (Tambov), who made great contribution last year in the organization of the Sholokhov Garden layout in Stanitsa Karghinskaya. He spoke about the significance of Sholokhov’s work, about the literary process in our country, about the problems and achievements of the fellow writers. He promised to keep attention to Sholokhov Garden and keep in touch with Vyoshenskaya.

The local and professional writers made a number of proposals for preservation and promotion of the rich spiritual heritage to the readers.
